Arab Horses Roots

An Oman Arab

The worlds oldest and most influential pure bred is the Arab.
It descended, it is believed, from Asiatic wild stock that ran
wild in the desert lands of the middle east as long ago as 5000 BC.
Some experts claim that this original desert home was in either Persia,
Syria or Egypt. But the majority hold that it was in the Yemen, in the
Arabian peninsula. From this origins, the Arabs special features - speed,
endurance, fine coat and toughness - developed. The main reason for the Arabs
vast influence is because its equine virtues proved to be proponent,
that is they have been transmitted from one generation on to the next.

Today, Arabs are found all over the world, and their breeding is a flourishing industry.
In the Arabs home land, the Middle East, the most celebrated is the Persian - the oldest
domesticated Arab - and the Egyptian, which, like the Polish Arab, is in heavy demand
for export. This pre potency developed through the selective inbreeding pursued for
centuries by the Bedouin tribesmen.
The Arab is the oldest and purest breed of all horses – there's evidence that the Arab was bred 2000 - 3000 years ago.

Arabs are the most beautiful of horses. They have large eyes,
slightly dished faces and large nostrils. They have curved necks and carry their
fine and silky tail in a high arc.

An Egyptian Arab

Arab horses are relatively small (14.2- 15hh) and compact in size,
but they are known for their great stamina. Arabian horses are among
the most intelligent of all the horse breeds.

All through history the Arab has been used to "strengthen" other breeds
of horse and pony (most famously the Thoroughbred).

Many other breeds might have some Arab in them but the true Arab horse has a
few features which make it different from any other horse or pony:
Arab horses have 17 ribs whereas all other horses have 18.
Arabs have 5 lumbar vertebrae and all other horses have 6.
Arabs have 16 tail vertebrae while all other horses have 18.
There are lots of different breeds of horses but the Arab is the oldest purebred breed of
horse in the world. The Arabian is well known for their elegance and purity of blood.
Many modern Warm-bloods are related to the Arab along the way. People use the Arab
for showing, dressage, endurance and eventing. They have many great abilities.
They are used for Arab racing.
